What an incredible first day here working. Barahona feels like home still 8 years later, and my happiness is exploding! Today I headed to the office to start some work, and I love how word travels so fast that I am here. As the day passes by, more and more friends pass by, and the love that I am greeted with her is so beautiful. This morning I started off my day by heading to Milton to pick up Yesenia. As I pull into the village in my little white Kia, I am greeted by Margo, who is the mother of some of my favorite kids. Her new baby Roberto is now 6 months old and a spitting image of Carolina. Isabella was with her mum also and her nephews. Isabella is beyond loved by one particular student Taylor Crafton, and although she was sad to hear she would not be coming on this upcoming team, she was excited to send her a special hello video!! Coming soon Taylor!! As Isabelle, Enrique and Israel beg me for a ride down the street to Yesenia's home, they hop in the back of the car, giggling uncontrollably. I love to see my kids happy, and with that it does not take much. Heading down the road with the continued giggling in the background, I see Yesenia walking to her home with a HUGE smile on her face! She has grown yet again!! This tall, beautiful girl greets me with the biggest hug and has her suitcase packed and ready to go! Yokaira is doing well, and as always her grandmother greets me with unbelievable love and gratitude. She is simply amazing and the superwoman in these girl's lives.
The rest of the day we spent in our offices, working with some of our staff from Bombita, and conversating about the future of BRP. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to be here with my staff this week alone. I don't think I have ever had time to simply enjoy everyone around me and show them how much I love them and how excited I am for the future of BRP. As the day passes by I get to see my two favorite Alejandro's!! As I sit having my dinner, I hear a distant "KATIE, KATIE KATIIIIEEEEEEEE" Oh yes it was little Alejandro, and as most of my volunteers know he is one very special little boy. At times super naughty, but a great kids who works on the streets of Barahona cleaning shoes.
I don't think a first day could have gone so well. We began to do some work on our offices here, which I won't give too many details on, as I plan to finish the construction Friday and surprise everyone with some changes we have made. As we move into 2017, our offices will be used not only for the full-time production of our jewelry, but for the full-time operation of BRP.
Buenas Noches, Katie
